The Nickel Centre Minor Hockey generally ices teams in the following Leagues:

  • Rep League (one in each division*)
Novice, Minor Atom, Major Atom, Minor Peewee, Major Peewee,
Minor Bantam, Major Bantam, & Midget

    House League *
Initiation, Tyke, Novice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam, Minor Midget & Major Midget

* Final decision on icing a team(s) in each divisions will be influenced by several factors including but not limited to available acceptable coaching staff, registered players, competitiveness (Rep level), availability of ice time, etc.

Certification
Coaching and staff positions require a varying degree of mandatory certification. Each team should include a coach, Assistant Coach(s), Trainer and Manager with a coach and trainer being the minimum. In the event of a team not having a manager, the coach would be responsible for managing duties.  Each position requires at a minimum, a current police check and Speak Out Certification. In addition to the latter, the Coach and Assistant Coaches  require a coaching certification (Initiation Certification at the Initiation, Tyke and Novice levels), the Trainer requires a current Trainer's certificate (valid for 3 years from date of issue).

Prior to the 2008 season a body Checking Certification was required beginning at the Minor Atom Rep  level because this was the initial introductory year to body checking. Beginning with the 2008 season, body checking will not begin until the peewee age group. Changes to certification has yet to be clarified.

The above staffing certification must be obtained prior to being registered with a team.
