On
May 5th, 2008, one of Nickel Centre Minor Hockey’s own,
Murray Hancock (pictured in the centre), was presented
the John Dandenault Award by the Nickel District Minor Hockey League.
The John Dandenault Award is awarded to an individual or a
group that promotes or displays fair play and good sport.
Murray was born and raised in Nickel Centre, where he continues to
reside with his wife and two daughters. He began playing and enjoying
the sport of hockey in the early 1980’s as a Nickel Centre Squirt.
His
love of the sport has transcended throughout the years as he continues
to play hockey, volunteer as an N.C.M.H.A. board member and as an
N.C.M.H.A. coach. His hopes as a coach are to develop fundamental skills
and instill the same passion and love of the game that he enjoys.
This
2007-08 season he was fortunate to coach with an exceptional group of
men and he was quick in recognizing the ideals and efforts put forth by
ALL the Nickel Centre Minor Atom coaching staff, honorably noted
Shawn Mclean, Jason Lavallee, Leo St.Georges and
Georges Preseault (all are pictured below). All of them
reminded the players throughout the year that the number one goal was to
have FUN and put forth your best effort.

Murray's Coaching staff for the 2007/08
season included from left to right,
Georges Preseault, Murray Hancock, Jason Lavalle, Leo St-Georges and Shawn
McLean.

Congratulations to Murray Hancock in your recognition of promoting and
displaying Fair Play and Good Sportsmanship in
2007-08.

Congratulations to
Nickel Centre Teams
Nickel Centre showed off its talents this past weekend (Feb
1, 2 & 3) at the House League Tournament where a Nickel Centre team not
only qualified in each division but also took home the Championship in
all but one division. A strong showing by all Nickel Centre teams.
Congratulation to all players and staff members!

Do You Need Community Hours?
The Nickel Centre Minor Hockey Association is
always seeking both adult and student volunteers to help out during
its two scheduled tournament every season.
Volunteers are needed for assisting 50/50 ticket sales, playing
music during games along with other duties commonly required during
tournaments.
Outgoing students requiring
volunteer hours will find this tournament environment
entertaining with some functions requiring interaction with
tournament participants from all parts of the province.
Should you be interested or
would like further information please contact
Tournament Chair as posted on the tournament page or by email at
ncmha@ncmha.net

Many Thanks to
our Tournament Volunteers
The Nickel Centre Minor Hockey Association and
more specifically the Tournament Committees would like to offer its
thanks to all those who have help out during the Rep and House League
Tournament this season. Everyone played a part no matter how mundane
their job may have felt. Many tedious functions were also done by
volunteers behind the scenes and were not quite so visible but just
as important. Your help was very much appreciated and we thank you.
On behalf of the Nickel Centre Minor Hockey
Association we would like to congratulate and thank the 2008 House
League Tournament Chair, Rob Marcotte for the successful
organization of this year's House League Tournament. A tremendous
amount of hours goes into the organization of a tournament of this
caliber. Those hours take a toll on one's time and family. Many
thanks for your dedication and commitment to all members of our
Hockey Association.
