Tyke Programs

The Nickel Centre Minor Hockey Association's Tykes Program is for 6 year old players. It is the second stage of the Initiation program and consists of the continuing development of basic skills required to play hockey. These include skating, handling a hockey stick, puck handling, passing etc.

Tyke players are generally on the ice 2 times a week (50 minutes per session) and share the ice surface with an other team.

While the Tykes program emphasizes development we try to organize two to three games during each month of December, January and February. They do not share ice if games are scheduled. Several trained coaches provide the training. Parents interested in taking the training program are encouraged to speak to an Executive member or contact the Association at www.ncmha.net or by phone at the number listed above. This is the same training as provided at the initiation level therefore, parents who have initiation level are already certified.
